Generation Gap

When older and younger individuals do not understand each other because of their different experiences, opinions, habits and behaviors, the generation gap arises naturally. In particular, the bigger the age difference, the deeper the gap. The detrimental effect of big age gap may be particularly apparent when children become teenagers

A large age gap means that the two generations have distinct life experiences and backgrounds, and they have greater differences in their views and solutions to things, i.e. a larger generation gap. Take concept of consumption, having experienced a more backward economic era, older parents will be more frugal, while children growing up in affluent society are prone to be wastrels, courting blame and provoking conflicts. In addition, a wider generation gap will lead to a lack of common topics, and thus less communication brings  tension in parent-child relationship
