Non-academic Subjects

There is a lot of pressure on young people today to succeed academically. As a result, some people believe that non-academic subjects, such as physical education and cookery, should be removed from the school syllabus so that children can concentrate on academic work.

To what extent do you agree or disagree?

In the modern age, the topic of whether non-academic subjects should be removed from the class has sparked considerable debate. Personally, I strongly disagree that removing physical education or cookery from school syllabus.

Admittedly, it seems true that students can concentrate on academic work without non-subjects disturb. This mainly because students may spend more time on studying or improve their exam performance. However, this notion is biased, as children may lose their concentration on study tasks after a long time study. The study efficiency would become lower and lower. In addition, boring study life may easily made student become annoy. It is harmful for their future development.

Secondly, non-academic subject education can borden their horizons and improve their ability in other aspects. For example, cookery may largely improve their life skills. Physical courses can play an important role for teenagers to keep their health. Besides, doing exercise regularly may help students get rid from heavy study tasks and truly release their pressure from academic training.

Moreover, non-academic subject education may help some students become more confident, especially students that can not have good performance on academic subjects. Each person may have different advantages on some fields. Some students are good at physical courses. It may encourage them easily find their interests.

In conclusion, I firmly believe non-academic subjects should be removed from daily courses in the school, because students have rights to find some interesting thing other than studying. And non-academic subjects may improve their all-round ability and help them adapt their future life.
